The Name

Where did the name Rewriting Ovid come from?

It came from my award-winning poetry. I wrote so many poems about the women from Metamorphoses by Ovid and the mythology of Rome and Greece that I felt as if I was rewriting Ovid.

Is it hubris or respect? I began to think Metamorphoses covered most every human situation. It's an old idea. Everything's been done already. All we are left with is revision. (What do you call me: a Neo-Modernist, Post-Modernist, believer in palimpsists, or what?)

So you might be thinking now, is that what I think the World Wide Web is all about? Rewriting Ovid? To some extent, yes. I see a lot of re-purposed content. I see many sites that are transformed and retransformed, yet say exactly the same thing.
