Law School Announces New Tax Certificate Programs

September 15, 2003, Capital University Law School now offers tax certification programs in Estate Planning and Employee Benefits.

The certificates are designed for lawyers and accountants who want to advance their careers and gain specialized taxation knowledge. Professionals will acquire high-level training without the time and cost commitment of a full degree program. If the student later decides to pursue an advanced degree, the course credits may be applied to an LL.M. or M.T. degree.

According to Mary Ming, Director of Graduate Law Programs at Capital, “the certificates let experienced practitioners concentrate their practice. They also provide valuable training for relatively inexperienced lawyers and accountants who want to acquire an advanced level of expertise.”

The programs benefit employers as well. Through these certificate programs, firms can provide sophisticated training without the commitment and expense of in-house training.

The courses are being offered through the Capital University Law School Master of Laws in Taxation and Master of Taxation for Accountants programs. Evening courses and flexible scheduling are available. Applicants may begin coursework in the fall, spring, or summer sessions.

Courses in the Estate Planning certification program include Estate and Gift Tax, Income Taxation of Trusts and Estates, and Estate Planning Practicum. The Employee Benefits certification courses include Qualified Retirement Plans, Executive Compensation and Welfare Benefits Plan.
